Dead to the Flesh

Week 24: June 11th – 17th

Bible passage to read: Romans 7:1-6, 8:13

Dead to the flesh, in the great words of God, the body in which we live in is referred to as the flesh. If the mind lacks knowledge about the words of God the flesh can be easily persuaded, which is why most humans are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Dying to the flesh is when the body does not lust after things of the world; such as adultery, fornication, stealing, lying, drugs and other devilish desires; “the things of the world that we humans crave for are of no long term benefactor but the destroyer of men”, this is why it is mandatory that we learn to control our cravings by feeding our minds with the words of God. The flesh is extremely stubborn and its aim is to pull us into the opposite direction. To avoid falling into the pit of the devil, we as soldiers of Christ must stand firm.

But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.    James 1: 14-15

The reasons why humans remain dying to the flesh, the world we live in it surrounded by temptation that happens to be the great obstacle that we must avoid while on earth. The temptation is so powerful that it invades the lives of saints just like a thief that breaks into your home, and if your spiritually weak temptation will definitely defeat you. The secret to conquering temptation and to avoid dying to the flesh is to move closer to Christ and constantly eat the food of the spirit, and you will eventually realize that the Lord as provided us with the power and knowledge to escape from temptation and to be set free from the

spirit of confusion. When we are familiar with the words of God and as long as we portray the attitude of the greatest role model (Jesus Christ) a Godly man who maintained his image in every situation because he understood and meditates with the words of God, he was able to live a perfect and sinless life. Christ was so devoted to the extent that the devil could not persuade him, he focused on speared the gospel and he led many people in the right direction, so to defeat temptation, imitate the lifestyle of Jesus Christ to prevent you from dying to the flesh.

Brethren once you have made the decision to become a born again, your life will definitely change for the better and you will gradually develop a Godly attitude.

When you are a renewed person you will be able to identify your weakness, and you will become spiritually strong. You will begin to overcome trials and tribulation, and you will defeat the very form of temptation because your mind will be filled with the words of God. As true born again you will learn to controls the cravings of your flesh, your way of life will be so pure to the extent that your fellow Christians will imitate your personality.

In the inspiring words of Paul, he wrote “So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! 13 No temptation a. has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted b. beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted c. he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it”.  (1st Corinthians 10: 12-13)
