My father said that families are people descended from common ancestral characteristics, source, blood, clan, or town. He further explained that ties of marriage or adoption could unite them. I stopped and thought, observed and pondered on it all over again but realised that indeed it is not true.

Change is an inevitable agent. Hills look down for help from the mountains at this age. At one point or the other, you may need help from whom you least expect. The horse was the king of the road then, with the evolvement of civilisation, vehicles of different sizes and styles came coughing up the road.

Who could ever believe that Buhari who was arrested by Dasuki in 1985 would arrest Dasuki in 2016? Al-Mustapha arrested Obasanjo on the order of General Abacha in 1995 and afterwards, Al Mustapha was arrested and jailed by Obasanjo for eight years in 1999.

Prof. Osibanjo, a commissioner under the leadership of Fashola in 2010. He later became a boss and an acting president to Fashola who became answerable to him as one of the ministers in 2017. Who would have thought that Nokia 3310 would be a forgotten phone in the midst of androids? Point-“No one stays at the top forever.”

From my own perspective, a family is a gathering of people bound together by love and care, where everyone is carried along with no one lagging behind, where offences are quickly forgiven and forgotten. The love & care seems as natural as breathing. It establishes a sense of oneness, forgiveness as we cannot but offend each other daily.

Irrespective of where you come from, your background, location, behaviour, life and chance has brought us together for unimaginable reasons that cannot be fathomed from inception.

Wherever you find yourself, be a soul-lifter, show concern, be a good listener, be comforting, do not be judgmental, be kind with your utterances, be kind, gentle and understanding. You might not know it but what you say today may save a life, fulfil a career or make a soul stronger. Be a shoulder for another to lean on.

However, you might not be able to touch everyone you met in the journey of life, but as much as you can, endeavour to be a good member of the family you belong to.
