Questioning God in difficult times

Being an orphan, I have challenged God (thinking I question Him) in my heart secretly and even openly. It is disappointing for those two to have died considering that they diligently served God as a shepherd in the Celestial fold for my dad and an Evangelist on my mother’s part; always imparting into people’s lives, willing to help and all. I kept asking God why He didn’t allow them both to live longer to do more exploits and turn more lives to God.

But I kept forgetting that John 1 states that ‘In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.’ This implies that every word spoken or documented in the Bible is from God; God’s inspiration (2 Timothy 3:16). With this same word, He created man (Gen 1). He also went further to state in Romans 8v28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God and called by His purpose.” Jeremiah 29v11 further says that His thoughts and plans for us are of good to give us an expected end.

Painful but true, there’s a reason for their death and it is not in my place to understand why. Isaiah 57v1 states that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come. Luke 12v7 asserts that even the hairs on our heads are numbered. Therefore, no strand falls off without God’s knowledge. Definitely, he knows about it. He allowed it happen because He understands why!

It’s still difficult to accept because as a human who can never understand God, I miss them more. Maybe as I write this, I will gradually graduate from my present state of ‘Why’ and accept fate.

There’s a clear difference between questioning God and challenging God. No man has the right to challenge God. Questioning indicates belief and the quest to know more through answers provided but if you ask without wanting to learn or get a reply, it is challenging.

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.Ephesians 2 : 10

What most humans do is challenging God and justifying our claims and rights. God is not a man that He should lie. He is a mysterious God, not meant to be understood. He was angry with His people and sent a country to chastise them. He still got angry with that country for touching His people and led them to their destruction. He created some just for destruction (eg Judas Iscariot, Pharoah) others to show His magnificence (Joseph, Paul).

We are so lucky to be His chosen. The Bible gives everything we need but not every answer. We should ask as little children ask, innocently & full of curiosity. When an answer doesn’t make sense, keep asking and believe there’s an answer. Truth be told, learning to trust in God’s timing absolutely is one of the hardest things to do. I struggle with it daily but I pray to God to help my unbelieve because I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me. (Phil 4v13).
