Sanctification for men
I have always wondered about something. The secretary always announces that men must sanctify themselves before conducting service – how is this done and how do we count the 3 days please? I want specifics. For instance:
- Friday to Sunday. Is this a complete three days?
- Does this mean a man can lay with his wife until Thursday?
- What about weekday service? Does a man need to sanctify himself for 3 days for this also?
- What if you go to a small church and you are called upon by the Olusho to conduct most times?
As you can see I have many questions on this topic because nobody has been clear or transparent about sanctification for men.

*Sanctification for men*
I have always wondered about something. The secretary always announces that men must sanctify themselves before conducting service – how is this done and how do we count the 3 days please? I want specifics. For instance:
1. Friday to Sunday. Is this a complete three days?
Answer: No, Thursday evening to Sunday evening would be a complete 3 days.
2. Does this mean a man can lay with his wife until Thursday?
Answer: Yes until Thursday evening.
3. What about weekday service? Does a man need to sanctify himself for 3 days for this also?
Answer: 2 days is required for Weekday services as the small alter is used and not the big alter.
4. What if you go to a small church and you are called upon by the Olusho to conduct most times?
Answer: You must balance your life, in balancing your life your matrimonial duty must be served. If you are constantly conducting service it is advisable to stay clean from the night before the service day.

Regarding sanctification (addressing the further comment left on the previous question)
For a man to sanctify himself it is the same procedure as a woman; with a bowl of water, candle, sponge and soap. But he does the prayer for himself and his wife can also bath with this.
The same rules of sanctification apply for Onibodes going into the alter to light candles and for reading the lessons.
Alleluia
The sanctification process of a man comes in various ways but most are done in the church. The only time a man can undergo sanctification like a woman does is when he touches a corpse,a coffin or goes to a cemetery.
Thank you for answering this so quickly and for the elder that enlightened me on this matter.
The answer does not give as much detail as I expected, however. The main question is HOW do we men sanctify ourselves. Look at, our women have a method of sanctification. They are prayed for with water, sponge & soap. Is there also a ritual for we men or is our own method of sanctification just to abstain from laying with our wife?
An additional question sirs – does somebody need to be sanctified by these same rules if they are just invited to read bible lesson or preach? What if you are an oni bode or a brother lighting the candle?
Please ask somebody to do a lecture on these matters. God says my people perish for lack of knowledge!!!
God help us.
