It has become common practise nowadays for churches to finish at anywhere from 4pm – 5pm. As someone who has attempted to bring people from the world to the church -time has been a big deterrent to this. Many friends have said you cele churches take too long. Is it right to start service at 10am and still be in service till 4/5pm even sometimes 6?
For many, Sunday is also their only day of rest and to be in church for 6, 7 hours – is this right?
But there’s a difference between your physical rest for your body, and the rest for your soul. The rest for your soul is what you come to church for and that radiates to the rest of your body.
What people don’t see is that they want to go home quickly with their family, but the reality is that when you get home you’re going to start thinking of things you’re not supposed to start thinking of (e.g. worrying about bills and the week ahead).
Being in the presence of The Lord, and with the help of The Holy Spirit we have help in these areas so we can enter into His rest; so even if everything around you is falling apart you can be at rest by being in God’s presence. But I subscribe to church finishing early but there’s nothing bad if they finish late.
Even the family you’re going home to meet is still the family of God, and you belong to the household of God. If you know your church finishes late, what you should do is pack stuff and do your family activities at church. That way you’re not missing much.
