Women are recognised for giving to the community in Lagos, Nigeria
“Flourish Africa” is a women’s empowerment platform which is founded by Mrs Folorunso Alakija. It enables women all over the world to achieve their fullest God-ordained potential. It started a campaign that encouraged ladies to nominate other women they knew, who they felt deserved to get a full day’s treat. The only criteria required to be met was that the people being nominated had to have impacted on their community positively, by giving back and making sacrifices.
Five ladies were chosen who had played significant roles in their communities from teaching kids to read and write, to empowering the youth with free workshops to enable them to have a means of income, to running an organization that encourages people to donate blood to women who suffer blood loss during childbirth… their sacrifices were highly remarkable for seemingly everyday women.
The selected ladies had paid jobs but still dedicated their time and resources to the benefit of people with whom they had little to no familial relations with.
The women were sent to Eko Hotel Signature Suites, treated to a wine reception and plates of small chops courtesy of The Barrique House and Magnifique Crystal respectively. After this, they received a make-over, courtesy of Itunu Adelakun of @adellahstyling and were treated to an individual photo-shoot.
From there, the guests were escorted downstairs to the restaurant where a candlelit dinner was prepared for them. At which point they were treated to a three-course meal and a surprise visit from Mrs Folorunso Alakija. She spent the next hour sitting with the ladies and getting to know them better. Each guest was given the opportunity to speak about their journey as women trying to make a difference and even ask intimate questions. In the end, one of the ladies asked Mrs Alakija to pray for the group. With hands linked together, the group prayed and bade her farewell.
