I am a child of God

I am a child of God

I have washed my feet in the blood of Jesus

I am a child of God

This is the song sung by Celestians during the Washing of the Feet Service.

Consider these verses of the Holy Scriptures

5. After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.

6. Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?

7. Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.

8. Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.

John 13 : 5 - 8

In those days it was the servant that washed the feet of the master hence Peter’s initial response.
Why wash our feet?
If we do not wash our feet, we have no part with Him. The Washing of the Feet and Holy Communion service are part of all the activities that one must undertake to have full participation in the Passion Week. If you have no part with Him then you are living your life in vain…where do you think you will end up?
Those who wash feet tie their girdle to wash it just as Jesus did, “He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself,” John 13:4. Jesus girded Himself; those that wash feet must also do the same; tie their loin and wash feet. When you girdle your loin you are showing humility in righteousness. “And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins Isaiah 11:5”.

Now When you wash your feet, you are clean all over.

9. Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.

10. Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.

John 13 : 9 - 10

It is only those whose feet are washed that can partake of the communion.
Holy Communion is yet another way in which we have our part in Jesus. It is after the washing of feet that you eat with Him. It was Abraham that brought about the washing of the feet then eating into play; we must wash our feet to partake in Holy Communion.

4. Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree:

5. And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts; after that ye shall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said.

Genesis 18 : 4 - 5

The whole essence of washing our feet and Holy Communion is to have our part in Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. We mustn’t miss out on either of these services. Remember that when we have our part with Him, He is in us and God in Him. After partaking in Palm Sunday, then washing of feet and Holy Communion then can we move on to next Good Friday and Easter Sunday. All these go hand in hand, they are like a package; necessary steps to be in line with God, receive His ability and be sorted for the year.

May God count us worthy of His grace, Amen.

  1. Jesus didn’t wash Paul’s feet and the thief crucified with him on the right side of the cross, we know he promised the thief paradise and paul happens to be a great apostle. It’s high time we leave the requirements of works and improve on our faith in this holy fold.

  2. I am happy to read this message about washing of feet and holy communion, it will make many people understand the important of this practice because it is biblical.

  3. Thank you Damilola Bolaji for your write up on washing of feet and the Holy Comminion. I pray your name will be written in the book of life for the little you did inform of evangelism. Please keep it up
